What Is The Difference Between Windows And Linux Operating Systems|  Difference Between Linux And Windows Operating Systems

Windows and Linux are two different operating systems. The most of the peoples used windows because of due to graphical user interface and it is easy to use by every person and not Linux. Now in this article we will discuss the basic difference between Linux and windows operating system.

Freedom:

Linux is open source operating system. Open source mean people can make any change in the Linux operating system codes for better performance. Programmers have no restriction for redesign the Linux operating system. On other hand windows does not allow to any people to make any change in the operating system. You can’t even see the coding of windows and which process is build and what they do?

Cost:

As we know Linux is an open source operating system, therefore it is free of cost. On other hand you need to pay for the windows operating system. All the versions of windows created by the Microsoft company but Linux comes from various companies like Lycoris, Red Hat, SuSe, LIndows, Mandrake, Knopping and Slackware.

In windows we can use the single copy of operating system is only on one computer but in Linux (single copy) can be usable on multiple computers. Therefore windows is expensive and Linux is cheaper.

Security:

In the security purpose, Linux is more secure than windows because of monolithic kernels used in the Linux operating system. Due to Linux kernels virus does not enter in the computer therefore no need of antivirus in the Linux. But in windows you need antivirus software for safety of your data in the computer.

Booting options:

In windows we can only able to install the operating system in the primary partition (such as “c” drive). But the Linux can be installed in any partition like primary, secondary or even you can run the Linux through external storage device like pen drive, DVD, cd-rom etc.

Linux use dedicated partitions for swap the files on other hand windows use hidden files for swap the files.

Case sensitive:

Linux is case-sensitive, means if you made a folder named “pqr” and “Pqr” these two folders are different in Linux OS. But in windows these two folders are same.

Windows separates the directories with back slash (“”) but Linux separates with forward slash (“/”).

Hardware requirements:

Most of hardware  created for windows operating system compatibility. But Linux operating system needs less hardware configuration than the windows. Linux is supporting almost all the hardware. It does not need special configuration like other operating systems.

There are lots of more differences between Linux and windows. Our purpose is not comparing which is better than other.
